About Climingo

Built by people who know the cost of forecast error

Weather data contracts worth six-figure sums were being chosen on accuracy claims no independent party had checked. Climingo was created to correct that.

Our mission

Energy trading firms and grid operators spend substantial sums each year on weather forecast contracts. Provider selection is often made once, using supplier benchmarks against reference datasets the buyer cannot inspect, then renewed through inertia. If accuracy deteriorates, procurement may not notice for months or years because the feedback loop passes through a trading book rather than a dedicated verification process.

Climingo makes that feedback loop direct, daily, and independently verifiable. We archive forecasts when providers issue them, score them against client actuals with standard meteorological verification metrics, and refresh rankings each morning. The result is a procurement signal grounded in observed performance, not brochure content chosen by a provider's marketing team.

Independent verification, in our view, changes market behaviour. When providers know performance is measured against real outcomes and clients can review scores each day, the incentive to preserve accuracy is stronger than vendor self-reporting can create. Better forecasts bring fewer incorrect hedges, fewer unnecessary reserve activations, and fewer weather-related logistics disruptions. Getting this right produces benefits that compound across the industry.

How we work

Principles we will not compromise

Independence first

Climingo accepts no fees from forecast providers and gives them no influence over archive submission. Subscribers provide all our revenue. That separation is the foundation for trust in our scores.

Reproducibility is essential

Clients can reproduce every score with their own actuals and any standard meteorological verification library. We publish the complete methodology. A result that cannot be independently reproduced cannot be defended to a procurement committee.

Your data is not a product

The observed values you upload remain yours. We use them only to calculate your benchmark. They are never aggregated, sold, or shared with providers, and you can delete them from the platform at any time.

Precision over breadth

We benchmark the markets and variables on which energy decisions depend. For a trading desk, a precise score for the control area and hour where its book has exposure matters more than a broad score across a generic national grid.
